Galata Tower
Although the exact date of construction of the Galata Tower, known as the Christ Tower, is not known, it is said to be in the 500s AD. Galata Tower is considered to be the oldest and most important work of the region. Romans, Venetians, Genoese and Ottomans used the tower for different purposes. Standing tall in the silhouette of Istanbul, the Galata Tower is like a silent jewel with history in its heart. First known as Byzantium, then as Constantinople until the Conquest, Istanbul was founded on the historical peninsula surrounded by the Sea of Marmara in the south, the Bosphorus in the east, and the Golden Horn in the north.
